This article shows the step-by-step on how scammers carry out their scam using WhatsApp. It’s for educational purpose so that you are wary.
Step 1:
You might have a friend whose WhatsApp account is compromised.
You receive a message from him asking you to send over a six-digit WhatsApp verification code that had been sent to you via SMS.
Step 2:
Of course, it’s your friend, and you trust him, so you do what he says in his WhatsApp message.
So, you copy the message from SMS, paste it in whatsapp over to him.
Step 3:
THAT’S IT!
That’s enough for the scammer to now have control of YOUR WhatsApp account!
Step 4:
Now, scammer will repeat the above to your OTHER friends/relatives and take over their accounts as well!
=============
Never ever share any OTP or verification code snet over SMS to you, to ANYONE ELSE. Period!
If you really must, call that person, and ask in the old-fashioned way, using voice, what this is all about.
Be wary of this scam.
